Late last week, the SRO assigned to Freedom High School in Woodbridge launched an investigation into an assault by a staffer against a teen last month.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, it was determined that an 18-year-old student was on a bus in the parking lot of the school when she encountered a school security officer, later identified as 41-year-old Dumfries resident Pedro Chirino.

It is alleged that during that encounter, pinched the girl's cheek while "engaging in an inappropriate conversation."

No injuries were reported.

Police say that the incident came to light recently when school officials were alerted and contacted the police. Following the investigation, a summons for assault and battery was obtained and Chirino was charged and later released.

His court date is pending.
